Kanpur Government Surgeon Dies by Suicide After Alleged Marital Dispute
In a separate incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, 47-year-old government general surgeon Dr Sandeep Singh died by suicide after an alleged dispute with his wife at Blossom Apartment in Nirala Nagar.
Dr Singh, who was posted at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kanpur Dehat, allegedly shot himself in the chest with his licensed revolver inside his prayer room on October 4, following an argument with his wife. He was found in the room in a critical condition after the gunshot was heard.
Hearing the sound of the gunshot, his wife, Kanchan, rushed into the room and found him lying in a pool of blood. Family members immediately took him to Regency Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
After receiving information about the incident, police and a forensic team reached the spot. The revolver was seized, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
According to Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, the preliminary investigation suggests that the suicide may have resulted from a dispute with his wife and persistent differences between the couple.
The deceased’s father, Raj Bahadur Singh, said Sandeep had been living separately with his second wife, Kanchan, and their two children. He added that he often intervened to resolve minor disputes between the couple.
Sandeep’s cousin, Mohit Singh, said the surgeon had married a doctor for the first time in 2007. That marriage ended in divorce in 2018, and he married Kanchan in 2019.
Police are continuing a detailed investigation into the Kanpur case. Further action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the investigation.
